Organization Blueprint Template
A web-native template for making functions, roles, decision rights, workflow, information flow, interfaces, and bottlenecks visible.
The problem to solve
An org chart is a partial picture. It rarely explains how work crosses functions, where decisions sit, what information is needed, or which bottleneck regularly slows delivery.
The Organization Blueprint fills that gap. It is a practical map, not a presentation artifact.
The Work & Theory principle
Design the organization around the work. The Blueprint makes the system visible enough to test whether structure, roles, decision rights, workflow, and information flow fit the organization’s direction.
Diagnostic questions
Start with a bounded workflow.
- What outcome does this workflow produce?
- Which functions and roles contribute?
- Where are the key decisions and decision owners?
- What information moves between roles?
- Which interface has the greatest wait, rework, or conflict?
- What bottleneck is currently masked by individual effort?
Practical next actions
Create a one-page map with seven fields: outcome, workflow stages, functions, roles, decision rights, information flow, and bottlenecks. Keep the current state separate from the desired state.
Use the map in the next leadership operating review. Ask one question: which interface, if improved, would make the greatest difference to the work?
Related artifact and pathway
This template is the starting structure for the Organization Blueprint artifact. Pair it with a Performance Contract for any role that owns a critical handoff or decision.

Before You Reorg, Map the Work
A reorganization is a design response, not a starting point. Map the work, handoffs, decisions, and failure points before redrawing the chart.
